COOCAFE (Consorcio de Cooperativas Cafeteleras de Guanacaste y Montes de Oro R.L.) was created to help a consortium of 6 cooperatives of small coffee farmers in northwestern Costa Rica market their coffee beans after a disastrous plunge in world coffee prices in 1989. The more than 2300 small coffee producers and their families benefit from COOCAFE's cooperative marketing strategies, advice on diversification of crops, and export expertise.
Unlike other coffee you find in U.S. supermarkets, every step of the coffee production process, from planting to packaging, is completed in the country of origin, returning more of the profit to the farmers. We have worked with COOCAFE to develop new blends of their roasted coffee, Cafe Forestal, and are currently the only source for purchasing this delicious coffee in the U.S.
