Lutheran World Relief
By selling through Fair Trade, farmers and artisans build a better future for themselves, their families and their communities. By supporting Fair Trade, we make choices in line with our religious beliefs and affirm human dignity.
LWR Handcraft Project When you shop for others or yourself through the LWR Handcraft Project Catalog, you receive beautiful Fair Trade handcrafts and ensure that the artisans are paid fairly and treated with respect. Your purchase provides income, dignity and hope to artisans and their families.
Hosting an LWR Fair Trade Fair on consignment brings a variety of Fair Trade handcrafts to your parish or community and demonstrates your commitment to economic justice. Artisans benefit from your sales of their crafts by gaining access to more people who care about their well-being.
LWR Chocolate Project To support the Fair Trade cocoa farmers of Kuapa Kokoo in Ghana, Lutheran World Relief became an owner of Divine Chocolate — the first farmer-owned brand of chocolate in the world. In Ghana, 20,000 cocoa farmers united to form Kuapa Kokoo, a democratically operated cooperative that gives them stronger representation in the cocoa market. When the cooperative sells its crop to Fair Trade buyers, the farmers receive a fair price. Also, the cooperative receives a Fair Trade premium that is invested in the farming communities—to build wells, fund schools, and provide mobile medical clinics and other benefits.
By choosing Fair Trade chocolate for fundraisers, gifts, or to enjoy personally, Lutherans ensure that cocoa farmers earn the income they need to feed their families, educate their children, seek medical care and improve their communities.
With every purchase, A Greater Gift makes a contribution to Lutheran World Relief, to support LWR’s partners and projects around the world.
